Snacks with a Powerful Punch
Medjool dates are nature’s candy that super-boost your energy. One of the best sources of food fuel when hiking or working out. Most store-bought energy bars and energy drinks don’t deliver such pure nutrition (easily absorbed and used by your body). Those products often contain fillers, animal byproducts, and partially-hydrogenated oils. Slick advertising and endorsements by paid pro athletes give the products “sports-health glamour.”
Sunflower seeds and walnuts are excellent sources of protein.
Sesame Seeds
Did ya know these little guys are loaded with calcium?
Grind in blender or food processor to make sesame seed powder.
Sprinkle on pasta, soup, baked goods, salad, and even cereal.
And try this simple recipe…
REALLY EASY PARMESAN REPLACEMENT
1/2 cup toasted (or not) white sesame seeds
1/2 cup nutritional yeast flakes
1/2 teaspoon salt
Pulse everything in a mini chopper (or blender) to fine crumbs.
Store in an airtight jar in your kitchen cabinet.
For folks not fans of the pungent flavor of nutritional yeast,
use 1/2 cup toasted almonds instead.
Bake or toast seeds or nuts at no more than 350°F
Healthy oils can turn into trans fat at higher temperatures. And your body needs trans fat as much as you need a ball-and-chain on each ankle.
For folks who wanna skip caffeine
Rooibos tea—aka red tea, originally from South Africa—offers a powerhouse of antioxidants like green tea but without caffeine.
Need oat flour for a recipe?
To make your own fresh oat flour, just run uncooked rolled oats through a blender or food processor until a fine powder. Often you can use the rolled oats just as they are if you prefer more texture in baked goods.
Keep your dog buddies & cat buddies flea-free the natural way
Just mix minced raw garlic in their food. They love the flavor.
(Not-So-)Organic
When less than 70% of a product is organic, it can’t be labeled “organic” on the front of the package. However, federal law allows the word “organic” to still appear in the list of ingredients.
So how do you know if something is completely organic?
Only if the label states: “100% organic.”
